Marla Aviva Bentley

Marla Aviva Bentley is the Cantorial Soloist and Music Director at Temple Beth Israel in Skokie, Illinois and the Co-Director of HaZamir Chicago, a chapter of HaZamir: The International Jewish High School Choir.

Marla earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Choral Music Education with Honors, from the University of Michigan and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Pedagogy from Oakland University.

Bentley is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), the Guild of Temple Musicians (GTM), the Women Cantors’ Network and the Chicago Cantors’ Hub and a lifetime member of Hadassah. Bentley has served as the Co-Chair of the 2013 ACC-GTM Convention in Minneapolis, and Vice President, Website Administrator and Editor (2013-2015) and Vice President, Communications and Publicity (2015-2017).

She is currently serving the GTM as Vice President, Membership. She is also the GTM Co-Chair of the 2018 ACC-GTM Convention in Dallas with Paula Baruch. In the summer, Bentley proudly serves a segel (faculty) at Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute (OSRUI) summer camp. Marla Aviva and her husband, Newell, reside in Deerfield, Illinois with their two children, Hannah Jane and Jaret Evan.
