Recognition

  • The Ben Steinberg Young Composer’s Award is offered annually to promote young Jewish composer’s works. The award provides the winner with a cash prize, a premiere performance, transportation to the first performance, and the possibility of publication through a generous endowment established by Burton Zipser.

  • The GTM Shomeir Shirah Award was established in 1990 to recognize persons of good character who have made significant contributions to the Guild, furthered its mission and have, as a result of these things, strengthened excellence in the field of synagogue music.

  • Generation to Generation Prize is offered by the Guild of Temple Musicians, the American Conference of Cantors with the Joint Commission on Worship, Music and Religious Living of the Union for Reform Judaism to a talented high school student who demonstrates promise in creating melodies that show sensitivity to the settings of Jewish liturgical text. The winner is paired with an experienced composer of Jewish liturgical music to refine and expand his/her understanding of melody, text-setting, and compositional techniques, with the goal of inspiring the next generation of Jewish composers.
