Guild Talks Music, Jewish Choral Movement & HaZamir
An overview of the Jewish choral phenomenon, beginning with New York's first and oldest Jewish community choir, The Yiddish Philharmonic Chorus, founded in 1922; the Boston Zamir Chorale, founded in 1969; Zemer Chai, the Jewish chorale of the nation's capitol, founded in 1976, and the Zamir Choral Foundation, founded by Matthew Lazar in 1960. We will learn about Makhelet Hashacher, a world renowned Japanese Hebrew Choir, Joshua Nelson and the Kosher Gospel Singers, the college a capella choir movement, and HaZamir: The International Jewish Teen Choir.

Guild Talks Music: Accompanying Jewish Services
Dr. Alan Mason, GTM VP for Special Projects, will lead a panel of GTM keyboardists who are skilled in accompanying Jewish services. We believe this webinar will be useful to all accompanists who work in Jewish spaces, but especially to those who did not grow up with Jewish sounds in their ears. Alan is one of the nation's most noted accompanists to cantors and sacred Jewish music concerts, conferences, conventions, and events, He is a regular accompanist for the Union for Reform Judaism, the Cantors Assembly, the American Conference of Cantors, the Jewish Theological Seminary, the Guild of Temple Musicians, and the Zamir Choral Foundation. Alan is the conductor of HaZamir Miami, a chapter of HaZamir: The International Jewish Teen Choir, and is a Past President of the Guild of Temple Musicians.

Back by popular demand, choral composer and arranger Dave Schlossberg returns to Guild Talks Music. His session “From Choral Concept to Choral Creation” focuses on how a choral arrangement is conceived and constructed. Dave will analyse, through numerous examples, the journey of a lead sheet to a choral arrangement and discuss the important choices arrangers make to produce an authentic result that honours the composer’s intent.
